The Hanmer Springs Mountain Bike Club first was established in August 2004.The Club consists of a small number of volunteers who help build and maintain the mountain bike tracks in the Hanmer forest.

A lot of thanks must be given to Matariki Forests who have allowed us to build mountain bike tracks on their land and Rayonier who manage the cutting rights. Without their support and such a great relationship we would not have the great tracks that we all enjoy.

Thanks must also given to our associated partners (Track Network Group), comprising of Ngai Tahu, Hurunui District Council, Department of Conservation, Rayonier Forests, Hanmer Horse Riders Group, Hanmer Heritage Forest Trust who collectively manage and maintain the Track Network.

The trail network in Hanmer Springs comprises over 30 kilometres of purpose built cross country trails catering to all levels of ablility, from easy and intermediate to advanced and expert.  Each of the trails are fairly short but are are easily linked to provide numerous customised rides to suit your riding style and ability.  All easy and intermediate trails are dual direction trails and add further variety to the circuits. Trail maps available from the Hanmer Springs iSite and are essential to get the most out of your ride. Get a map, plan your ride, and take comfort in the fact that a portion of the map cost goes directly back to the club to enhance your future riding experience.

Hanmer Springs offers year round riding, however, periodically some trails may be closed due to adverse weather conditions especially during winter when frost heave can cause significant damage to trails.  Please heed all trail closure signs which can be put in place at anytime without prior warning.  It is also advised that during periods of significant wind that trails should also be avoided.
